About The Vet Eye Team

A Different Kind of Veterinary Ophthalmology in Atlanta

At The Vet Eye Team, specialty eye care is built around connection, clarity, and compassion. We know how stressful it can feel when your pet is struggling with their vision, and our goal is to make every step of care feel informed and supportive.

Operated by Dr. Alessandra Keenan and Dr. Alex Sigmund, our independently owned Atlanta practice focuses exclusively on veterinary ophthalmology. That focus allows us to deliver advanced eye care with the time, attention, and communication every pet and pet parent deserves.

Our Vision

We treat clients, pets, and staff as partners. Every voice matters—from the technicians assisting each exam to the pet parents giving eye drops at home. That shared effort is what defines us as a team.

What Our Clients Are Saying

About The Vet Eye Team

Find clear answers to common questions about our practice, appointments, referrals, and what to expect at your visit.

Yes. The Vet Eye Team is 100% privately owned and locally operated in Atlanta, GA. That independence allows us to prioritize patient care, team well-being, and client experience over corporate policies or outside pressure.

Referrals are welcome, but not required. Many of our patients are referred by their primary care veterinarian, while others find us by searching for a veterinary ophthalmologist or “eye doctor for dogs and cats” in Atlanta. If you’re unsure whether your pet needs specialty eye care, you’re always welcome to call and ask.

We primarily see dogs and cats, along with small pets and exotics such as rabbits, gerbils, birds, and some reptiles. If you’re not sure whether your pet’s species is a fit, our team can let you know what’s possible and guide you on next steps.

We treat a wide range of eye conditions, including glaucoma, cataracts, dry eye, uveitis, corneal ulcers and injuries, eyelid abnormalities, and many chronic or inherited eye diseases. If your pet has red eyes, squinting, cloudiness, discharge, or changes in vision, an ophthalmic exam can help uncover the cause.

We see ourselves as an extension of your primary care vet’s team. After each visit, we send a detailed report to your family veterinarian the same day, along with our recommendations for treatment or ongoing monitoring. That way, everyone involved in your pet’s care stays aligned.

You’ll check in with our front desk team, then meet with a technician who will gather history and perform initial testing as needed. The doctor will then complete a full eye exam, discuss findings in clear, simple language, and walk you through any recommended tests or treatment options. You’ll leave with a written plan and plenty of time to ask questions.

You can call our office directly or submit an appointment request through our online form. Our team will follow up to confirm details, help you gather any records from your primary care veterinarian, and schedule a time that works for you and your pet.

Emery Wach

Emery Wach

Customer Service Representative

Emery is a GA transplant who’s lived all up and down the East Coast and abroad, but has lived in Atlanta the longest when she moved here in 2011. She especially loves Atlanta’s varied food scene, living on the Beltline, having an international airport nearby, and going to shows at the Masquerade. She’s been a CSR at a primary care vet, an Adoption Counselor at the Humane Society, and most recently has been doing specialty and emergency veterinary Referrals. She is a ‘cat person’, and has two sweet kitties Pepper and Suki, and a very good shepherd-hound mix named Bojack. She’ll be the first to tell you about the joys of having a blind animal, and thinks Ophthalmology is the coolest type of vet med.
